AT A GLANCE

The level crossing in Salierstraße in Paderborn had to be renewed to reduce the risk of accidents involving two-wheelers. Therefore, the city of Paderborn was looking for a system that would allow crossing without accidents.

Narrow wheels, for example of bicycles, can get caught in the rut. This can lead to accidents. veloSTRAIL closes the rut and thus eliminates this risk. Rail traffic is not affected by this. This is why the Road and Bridge Department of the City of Paderborn decided in favour of veloSTRAIL.
The installation went quickly and smoothly.

AT A GLANCE

The Büchler Bridge in Luxembourg should become more accessible for emergency vehicles. Especially in case of a blockage
of the roadway, the fire brigade, emergency doctors and police must still be able to pass over the bridge or advance onto it.
Therefore, a solution was sought to make the tram tracks on the bridge passable. The decision was made in favour of innoSTRAIL.

In order to ensure a barrier-free crossing for emergency vehicles, no gaps were to be left between the fields of the tram tracks.
Therefore, individual innoSTRAIL track transition panels with transition plates were installed.

A special feature of the Luxembourg project are two additional ruts integrated into the surface of the level crossing slabs. Should an emergency occur and the tram derails, the grooves catch the train wheels and guide the train. Further damage is thus avoided. STRAIL installed corresponding steel U-profiles connected with webs for the ruts in each panel.

To accommodate the signal conductors and keep them in position, special recesses were milled into the inner panels. The signal conductors are accessible at all times. Removal of the remaining panels is not necessary.

In addition, a shifting safety device specially designed for the Büchler bridge ensures that the position of the level crossing panels is fixed. The displacement lock is hidden under the level under the level crossing system and is not visible from the outside.

KRAIBURG STRAIL once again receives silver award from EcoVadis

The Tittmoning-based company KRAIBURG STRAIL has been awarded the silver medal for sustainability by EcoVadis for 2023. EcoVadis conducts company ratings worldwide in the areas of environment, labour and human rights, ethics and sustainable procurement. STRAIL is in the top eleven per cent of companies assessed in the rail vehicle construction sector in the latest evaluation.

STRAIL has been working with EcoVadis since 2018 and has improved its sustainability performance every year since then. In 2023, the company is now making another significant leap upwards, increasing its score in all four assessment areas by more than ten points in some cases. “We are constantly working to improve and are very proud that we have now become even more sustainable as a company,” says Andreas Draak, Sustainability Manager at STRAIL. Especially measures in the area of sustainable procurement of raw materials such as the introduction of a sustainable code of conduct for suppliers and the further development of the waste management system have contributed to the improvement in the EcoVadis rating.

Sustainable products
STRAIL has always been on a highly sustainable path with its products. The base material for the level crossing and noise protection systems as well as the polymer sleepers are secondary raw materials such as vulcanised rubber compounds and polyolefins reinforced with fibres. In addition, production in Tittmoning is optimised so that it uses as little energy as possible and produces hardly any waste.

innoSTRAIL for tramway – Milan, Italy

FACTS

Location: Milan, Viale Monza 228
Client: ATM Spa – Azienda Trasporti Milanesi (tramway authority)
Product: innoSTRAIL
Length/quantity: 2 tracks in curve (R125/115 m) – length 19,8 m/each
Conditions: Grooved rail (62R1) on concrete platform
Date: July 2018

ADVANTAGES

  • Fast installation – 900 mm panels allow for fast installation
  • Quiet – less noise due to damping e ect of rubber
  • Individual – adjustments to (almost) all conditions are possible with our products

A QUICK OVERVIEW

The „Viale Monza“ is one of the most important roads to Milan, every day thousands of cars, buses and trucks drive along this road.
This highly frequented street is crossed by a double track tram line, operated by ATM. Despite constant asphalt works, the surface in this area is in poor condition and full of holes, resulting in noise problems for all residents.
Together with acoustic consultants, the Milan City Authority decided to equip the area with the innoSTRAIL system. Our system guarantees a even and durable surface. A unique project for STRAIL – the special conditions of the track (irregular concrete substructure, tracks with different radii, etc.) required us to adapt our planning to meet all conditions.

Special features of the project:

  • Compensation of the gaps – rubber mats were laid along the entire length to cover the gaps (approx. 28 mm)
  • Outer area – long outer panels (713 mm) with kerbstones were laid here
  • Intervia area – short outer panels (440 mm) with steel angles were laid here

As a complete road closure was not possible, the installation work was carried out in individual steps. This made the installation more difficult, but the traffic flow could be guaranteed.
When all work was completed, the result was very good. The noise at the intersection was successfully reduced thanks to our products.

  • Can be processed without any special machines
  • Minimal maintenance effort

AT A GLANCE

In the course of new track construction, the wooden bridge beams on the steel bridge in Matzerdorf, which were already showing signs of deterioration, were replaced. Since the client (NÖVOG) was looking for a long-term solution, the decision was made in favour of the durable STRAILway bridge beams.

The reconstruction was carried out competently by the STRABAG construction team. Due to the special steel construction, the sleepers were individually adapted, which involved considerable drilling and cutting work.
The fact that STRAILway sleepers are particularly easy to work with and that no protective clothing is required for processing them, unlike with other products, is worth highlighting. The workers appreciated this tremendously. To allow the protective rail to be extended outside the bridge (double ribbed plate), 15 additional STRAILway sleepers
were laid. Here, too, the durability of the STRAILway polymer sleepers was the deciding factor.

11 level crossings – almost 100 track metres of panels went from Germany to India in early 2021.

STRAIL was chosen because of its long-lasting quality and good experience.
The old, worn-out surface was disposed of and replaced by a system from STRAIL – the 900 mm innoSTRAIL panels.

This was also the first level crossing to be installed by this construction team.
Due to the travel restrictions at that time, no STRAIL employee could be on site in person.
The installation team only needed the installation instructions and a short digital consultation to install everything.

The installation was carried out without machines, both kerbs and inner panels were installed manually.

Installation of turnout sleepers at DB Südostbayernbahn

FACTS

  • Location: Bavaria, Germany
  • Client: DB Südostbayernbahn
  • Products: STRAILway turnout sleepers 260 x 160 mm
  • Length: 337 Meter
  • Conditions: 2 turnout | axle load: 22,5 t | speed: to 40 km/h
  • Installation: October 2020

ADVANTAGES

  • Very good processing using standard woodworking tools.
  • Environmentally friendly.
  • Life span > 50 years.

A QUICK OVERVIEW

Together with DB Südostbayernbahn, two turnouts were equipped with STRAILway polymer sleepers as part of the operational test were installed. The turnouts serve as connection points between the DB network and a Chemical Park.
Due to local conditions, the wooden sleepers at one turnout were in very poor condition. Large trees overhang the track here and promote the rotting of the wood, resulting in a lot of overgrowth. An ideal location for our weather-resistant polymer sleepers.
The turnouts could only be converted manually, sleeper by sleeper, as it was necessary to guarantee access outside the closure period in order to allow unrestricted track access to the industrial estate during operating hours.
The pre-drilling of the holes for the rail fastening of the sleepers was already done in advance in the sleeper factory. The sleepers were installed smoothly within three days per turnout. The track construction team of Deutsche Bahn was impressed by the easy handling of our sleepers.
Without any additional work, the con-version could be carried out in a similar way to wooden sleepers.

A QUICK OVERVIEW

About 25 years ago, the funicular in Stans was first equipped with a level crossing that had been custom-built for it by KRAIBURG STRAIL.
When the crossing showed some signs of age, the operator approached KRAIBURG STRAIL again in autumn 2019 to renew the existing
level crossing. In addition, three more level crossings of the same type were delivered and installed.

The special feature: The specially cut innoSTRAIL panels are installed in a custom-built steel frame with cable guide.
The steel frame and innoSTRAIL panels were designed and manufactured by KRAIBURG STRAIL.

The individual steel frames were bolted to the new steel sleepers in the level crossing area. Then the innoSTRAIL panels were inserted piece
by piece and tightly braced. Finally, rubber end pieces were pushed into the steel frame and secured with extra bolts.

In the summer of 2020, the level crossings were completed with only minor remaining work and approved by the client who appreciated
it as a good solution.

The KRAIBURG STRAIL team wishes everyone a safe journey and would like to thank everyone involved for the pleasant cooperation!
